Case study
Companies that have never been audited by Oracle like to keep it that way, and if they’re going to be audited, they like to know what they’re in for. Such was the case for a large Midwest manufacturer that wanted to move to third-party support for its various Oracle products. Based on the organization’s own assessments, the company was compliant.
However, the company’s Oracle licenses supported more than 2000 users, and management knew that Oracle licensing wasn’t straightforward.
To ease any concerns, the manufacturer decided to get an independent third-party perspective.
Manufacturer hires us for compliance assurance
Based on suggestions and recommendations from trusted sources, the manufacturer decided to engage with Palisade Compliance for its compliance assurance services.
Unlike other firms in the space, we are independent of Oracle, yet understand the complexities of Oracle licensing. Our delivery team is comprised of former Oracle professionals with decades of Oracle experience.
We collected and analyzed the various contracts the manufacturer had accumulated over the course of 20 years of purchasing Oracle products. We also gave the manufacturer scripts to run, then looked for gaps, and confirmed that the licenses the manufacturer thought it had were indeed documented in the contracts. Our senior management followed up with the manufacturer on a regular basis throughout the six-month engagement.
Positive outcomes for our client
We identified configuration changes in the manufacturer’s virtual environment that brought the company in line with Oracle policy. We discovered a few license count issues, which the manufacturer corrected by performing a system clean-up as well as a small license true-up purchase with Oracle. We advised the manufacturer on how Oracle interprets EBS licensing rules in order that they remain in a state of compliance going forward.
At the end of the engagement, the manufacturer was able to confidently proceed with third-party support and realize substantial cost savings. Just as importantly, the manufacturer feels prepared for the possibility of an audit, if that’s what the future holds.
“Palisade gave us advice on negotiating with Oracle for future and current licenses, as well as for ending Oracle support and moving to a third party. They delivered far more value than what was in our statement of work. It’s obvious they enjoy helping companies,” said the manufacturer’s Director of Technology.
