For those of us who’ve been working with Oracle, we know what this means. If you are new to the Oracle ecosystem, then buckle up. From now until midnight on June 1, Oracle will apply the full-court press to you and your organization trying to get you to sign the latest and greatest thing Oracle wants you to sign. The goal for Oracle is that your costs go up and you are more locked in to the Oracle ecosystem then ever before. Right now, it’s all about the cloud with Oracle. However, they will be more than happy to take your license dollars or support dollars or hardware dollars or whatever dollars. This is the most critical time of year when dealing with Oracle and it’s important that you are in control of ride. One piece of advice for anyone negotiating a May deal: Make sure you get the contract, in an editable Word format, by March 15th. This gives you two and a half months to negotiate real terms with Oracle. Don’t negotiate the Oracle sales PowerPoint presentations. Negotiate the contracts.
